Freedom Vanlines Inc Start-up Program

We have a company start-up program for drivers new to the game.
Firstly I would like to say the white 1989 Volvo WIA64T should be your first truck it is much better then the older ones!

*Also please see the Driver Training Manual below this will give you alot of infomation.

Training Manual - Part 1 - General Overview and Gameplay
We recommend the following to all new drivers to ensure the best possible growth of your driver rating and greatest financial benefits.
1) Dont speed. Its just not worth it, speeding tickets will diminish your driver rating (DR) as well as cost you a fair bit of money. Speeding is defined as driving at more than 5 mph over the limit. So if the speed limit is e.g. 55mph, feel free to go 60. Nothing is going to happen.
Be aware of the Top Weather Speed as well. You may want to go no more than 5mph over to be absolutely safe. If the Top Weather Speed and the regular Speed Limit are different, adjust your speed to the one that is lower.
2) The lowest price for fuel in the game is $1.85 per gallon. If your tank is getting near empty you may consider filling up a bit earlier if you see a competitive rate along the way. Please note that for all operational costs (fuel, repairs, tickets) you can go into the red, ie you can spend money you don’t have. For truck and item purchase however, you must have the actual amount needed in your pocket (not in the bank).
3) Do not go over 10 Fatigue Points (FPs). Again, if you crash, its your own fault and repairing your rig will cost you hundreds of dollars. It is possible to go over 10 without crashing but dont push your luck...
4) CB Radio, GPS and Tire Chains are excellent buys as your first extra items. All of them can be kept when you sell your truck for a better one and you can use them with your new truck rightaway.
5) Never haul General Merchandise, it pays the least. Even if you are only running a connection to another city nearby to start a really good route, choose one of the other cargoes. You will still get a better price for it than for General Merchandise, even if the destination city does not demand that cargo type.
6) Do not start a new route when your fatigue is still at 9 or 8. Arrival times are always calcualted so that you will be able to make it in time within normal driving limits. If youre starting a new route with not much scope to start with then youre unnecessarily making your route more difficult.
7) Every Monday at 12.00am, 1% interest is paid on the first $100000 dollars in each driver’s bank account. No matter how little the amount, put everything into the bank on Sunday night. Its free money.
8) Have fun. Explore the game. Get in touch with other drivers. There are many aspects to the game which you will discover as you go along.

Training Manual - Part 2 - Penalties and Tickets

1) Speeding
Speeding counts as more than 5mph over the Speed Limit. Example: The Speed Limit is 45mph. You can safely go at 50mph without any problems. Driving at 51mph or more would be in the danger zone, no matter if you drive at 51mph or 91mph - you pay!
Also, for every speeding ticket received, your Driver Rating will be slashed by 0.5.
2) Exceeding HOS (Hours of Service)
Exceeding HOS counts as 11 or more fatigue points. Therefore stop at 10 fatigue and take a break. This includes the 11th leg, i.e going from 10 to 11 is already in the danger zone. If you get stopped by the police with excess fatigue you will receive a costly ticket plus your Driver Rating will be slashed by 0.5 for each ticket received.
On top of that you can also crash due to excess HOS. This will also cost you 0.5 of your driver rating AND the costs for the repair of your truck, which are even higher than those of tickets.
3) Exceeding Maximum Legal Load Limit
Same as speeding or excess HOS, this can incur a fine from the police. The difference here is that you will be in danger for the entirety of the route as you cant just dump your excess cargo mid-way. Whatever you load up, you have to deliver. One of the riskiest rules to break as at least theoretically, the number of tickets per route could be equal to the number of route legs needed, as you can be stopped and fined for overloading more than once on the same route. Again, for each ticket your driver rating will diminish by 0.5.
4) Crashing in bad weather
Crashing in bad weather can only happen due to speeding, which can of course be avoided. There are several items for purchase (eg tire chains, warning lights) which permanently raise your possible bad weather speed. Like with excess HOS crashes, a self-inflicted crash like this will cost you 0.5 driver rating plus the repair of your rig.
Payment of tickets
All tickets are on-the-spot fines. You must pay up to the cops before you can continue on your route.
 Exceptions:

There is one exception to excess fatigue problems. If your 11th leg will get you to your destination, you will not crash or receive a ticket.
Example: Your fatigue is at 10. You are 41 miles from reaching Montreal with a load of Iron Ore. Go 42mph (or more, but that’s pointless, it will only waste fuel) and youre there. You can ‘push home’ and go up to 11 FP – all will be well but then its of course time to take a break to get fatigue down.

Training Manual - Part 3 - Random Mechanical Failures
Its in the name – they are random. The chances of a Random Mechanical Failure (RMF) happening increase with the mileage, not necessarily age, of your truck.
Therefore if you have a truck which you bought with 700000 miles but which has now got 1.600.000 miles on its back, its more likely to have a RMF than a newly bought 1989 white Volvo with just over 1 million miles on the odometer.
Three things in general are important regading RMFs:
1) Your driver rating remains the same. It’s just a mechanical failure and not a crash. RMFs are not your fault.
2) Repairing the truck after a Random Mechanical Failure is A LOT cheaper than repairing your truck after a crash.
3) Just because you have a truck with higher mileage does not mean that you actually have more RMFs, only the chances (!) of them happening are higher. There are people who buy a brand new truck with zero miles, straight from the factory and they have 2 or 3 breakdowns on their first route. Anything is possible…so do not get paranoid about RMFs, they are just part of it all just like in real life.

Training Manual - Part 4 - Choosing the right truck

Ok you’ve had the white Volvo for a while and earned a fair amount of money so that its now time to upgrade. Browsing around the ‘Truck Lot’ in ‘Game Statistics’ you will be able to see that the gold Kenworth W900 is popular with a large number of drivers. This is because in terms of value for money, the golden Kenworth cannot be beaten as second truck. Therefore the game runs a bit along well-trodden lines at the beginning but once youre in the golden W900 you will receive a boost to your income as the new truck has got a better miles per gallon ratio and will therefore save you fuel costs. Also it is less likely to break down and is able to go faster which brings you up to freeway speed limits for the first time.
After the golden Kenworth, finally all routes are pushed wide open. From your third truck onwards, you will have a real choice and will be able to buy according to preference based on desired performance, fuel efficiency, mileage and value for money.
**IF THERE IS ANY SPELLING ERRORS I AM REALLY SORRY**
